How to Use the Otto Browser Extension to Transfer Prescriptions from Your EHR
Learn how to use the Otto browser extension to instantly transfer patient demographics and prescription details from your EHR into Otto without double entry.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Before You Begin

Make sure you are logged into Otto.

If your clinic has multiple locations, confirm you are viewing Otto under the correct location (shown at the top of the screen).
Step 1: Open the Patient Record in the EHR

Log in to the EHR.

Navigate to the patient’s profile.
-
Open the relevant contact lens prescription.
You should be viewing the full prescription details before proceeding.
Step 2: Launch the Otto Browser Extension

In your browser toolbar, click the Otto browser extension icon.

The extension will automatically:
-
Pull patient demographic information (name, address, contact details).
-
Capture the product information.
-
Transfer prescription parameters.
-
No manual copying or re-entry is required.
Step 3: Create the Order in Otto

Inside the extension window, click Create Order.
-
Otto will:
-
Create a new order.
-
Copy all relevant patient and prescription details.
-
Flag the patient if they already exist in your system.

You will then be redirected to the newly created order in Otto.
Step 4: Review and Finalize the Order
Once the order opens in Otto:

Confirm patient details and shipping address.
-
Review the product and prescription.
-
Make any necessary adjustments, such as:

Updating the quantity

Adjusting the refill reminder date

Setting or confirming the prescription expiry date

Applying insurance or discounts if needed

Step 5: Process the Order
After reviewing the details:

Click Process Order (if applicable).
-
The order will be submitted according to your clinic’s fulfillment settings.
No additional steps are required to send the order to the supplier once processed .
Important Notes

Always confirm you are operating under the correct clinic location before creating the order.

If the prescription is expired or requires validation, the order may be flagged for review before processing.

Patient payment will not be charged until the order is approved and processed .

You can still view the order on the supplier’s website using the supplier confirmation number found in Otto .
When to Contact Support

If the extension does not pull prescription details correctly.

If the patient record fails to create.

If the order does not appear in your Orders Log after clicking Create Order.

If the order has already been sent to the supplier and needs modification.
