Managing Multiple Prescriptions for the Same Product

Otto allows one active prescription per product on a patient’s file. This helps prevent orders from automatically processing using the wrong prescription.

If a patient actively wears two different prescriptions for the same product—for example, one prescription for monovision and another for sports—the workflow below ensures each future order comes to your clinic for review.

Step 1: Review the Assigned Product

Open the patient’s file and locate the product they wear.

  • If Prescription Parameters Are Already Entered

    • Locate the prescription in question.
    • Click Clear Powers to remove the saved prescription values.

For patients with multiple active prescriptions for the same product, clearing the powers ensures the order comes to your clinic for review so you can enter the correct prescription before processing.
  • If No Prescription Parameters Have Been Entered

    • You can skip this step. Simply leave the parameters blank so future orders require your clinic’s review.

Important: If prescription parameters are entered and the prescription has not expired, Otto will automatically process the patient’s next order using those values.

Step 2: Patient Places Their Order

  1. The patient can order the assigned product through their Otto webstore as usual.

  2. After placing the order, have them click the Help button in the top-right corner of the webstore.
  3. Have them send your clinic a message indicating which prescription they need—for example, monovision or sports.

The message will be sent directly to your clinic by email, making their request visible when you receive notification of the new order.

If the Patient Wants Both Prescriptions

  • If the patient wants to purchase both prescriptions at the same time

    1. Patient selects supply level for first prescription

    2. Then click "Add to Cart" to add the first supply

    3. Patient selects supply level for second prescription
    1. Then "Quick Reorder" for the second which automatically takes them to the checkout.

  • They can then use the Help (?) button in the top right corner of your webstore/ their ordering page to let you know that the order should be split between their two prescriptions.

Step 3: Review & Process the Order

Because the prescription parameters were left blank, the order will come to your clinic for review rather than automatically processing.

From the order:

  1. Review the patient’s request.
  2. Adjust the quantities as needed.
  3. Enter the appropriate prescription parameters for each set.
  4. If necessary, click Add Product to add the same product again for the patient’s second prescription.
  5. Process the order as usual.

Step 4: Keep the Parameters Blank for Future Orders

For patients who regularly wear multiple active prescriptions for the same product, keep the prescription powers blank between orders.

After processing their order:

  1. Return to the patient’s file.
  2. Locate the prescription in question.
  3. Click Clear Powers to remove the saved values again.

This ensures their next order will also come to your clinic for review rather than automatically processing using one set of prescription parameters.
