How to Choose Your Volume Pricing Logic
If you offer volume discounts, Otto can calculate pricing in one of two ways. Here is how to choose the option that best matches how your practice wants to charge patients.
Consider this scenario...
A patient:
- Wears different contact lens products in each eye.
- Purchases an annual supply (4 boxes per eye, 8 boxes total).
How would you like Otto to calculate the price?
Option A — Honour the Annual Supply Discount
-
Treat the purchase as an annual supply, even though the patient wears different products.
-
Example
-
Right Eye: Annual Sphere price ÷ 2
-
Left Eye: Annual Toric price ÷ 2
-
The patient receives annual supply discount
-
-
Select this option if: You want patients purchasing an annual supply to receive your annual pricing, regardless of whether they wear different products in each eye.
Note: If the patient only wears product in one eye, they would pay 50% of the supply level cost. Example if the patient buys 4 boxes for one eye only, they will pay 50% of the annual supply.
OR
Option B — Treat as Two 6-Month Supplies
-
Treat each eye as a separate 4-box purchase.
-
Example
-
Right Eye: 4 boxes Sphere → 6-month pricing
-
Left Eye: 4 boxes Toric → 6-month pricing
-
The patient receives 6-month pricing for each product
-
-
Select this option if: Your pricing is based on the number of boxes purchased for each individual product, rather than honouring annual supply pricing across different products.
How to Change Your Pricing Logic
If you'd like to change or view your current pricing logic, here is how:
- Go to Settings.
- Select Preferences.
- Scroll down to Volume Pricing Basis, choose either:
- Per Eye = Honour the Annual Supply Discount >
- Combined Quantity =Treat as Two 6-Month Supplies >

Note: If you change your volume pricing basis, review your volume pricing table to ensure it reflects how you want discounts applied under the new pricing logic.
