How to Enable Patient Order Tracking in Otto
When processing an order in Otto, you can send patients a tracking link so they can follow their order status on their own. This article explains how to opt a patient in or out of tracking notifications on a per-order basis, and how to set your clinic's default preference.
Sending a Tracking Link at the time of Processing:
- Create the order as you normally would, clicking the green "Process Order" button at the bottom of the order page.
- On the order confirmation pop-up, select "Include Order Tracking Link" to send this to the patient with the order confirmation message.
- Once sent, the patient can access their order status through the secure Patient Portal.
- As soon as the supplier adds a tracking number, it will also be visible to the patient through the same link.
To avoid adjusting the setting on every order, you can configure a default that applies to all new orders.
- Click Settings in the top navigation.
- Go to Preferences > Patient Notifications.
- Toggle Send order tracking link by default on or off.
- Click Save.
This default can still be overridden on any individual order using the per-order toggle described above.
Important Notes- The tracking link is sent as part of the order confirmation message — patients do not receive a separate notification.
- Tracking availability depends on the supplier. If a supplier does not provide tracking information, the link will not show live updates.
- Changes to the default setting apply to new orders only and do not affect orders already submitted.

We do not recommend sending tracking links for ship-to-office orders. Batched orders share a tracking number but may ship separately, which can cause confusion.
